About Kookaloo
Kookaloo
is built by Van Heijgen Bootbouwerij in Belgium. She is a Spirit 36 type.
The hull and the deck was built at the shipyard in the spring of 1994. We
constructed the interior and the deck layout during the summer months, before
the boat was launched in March 1995.
Kookaloo
is a very fine, comfortable and fast sailing yacht. The yacht is easy to control
and to steer in light as well as in heavy winds.
Her length is 11 meters, her width is 3.66 meters and she has a draft of 1.98
meters. She displaces 5850 kilograms of water.
Of course when we stow all our stuff in the nearly 20 storage lockers the
displacement increases, however the yacht is still sailing fast and comfortable.
The directors of Van Heijgen Bootbouwerij have stated, that Spirit yachts are
fine family cruisers with remarkable race capabilities.
In 2009 Kookaloo got her hull sprayed in a beautiful navy blue color with goldcolor striping.
New mainsail, genoa 2 and 3 were fitted in 2005.
Kookaloo
has a berth in St.Annaland, which is at an excellent location at the
Krabbenkreek that flows into the Oosterschelde in the Netherlands.
We normally sail the yacht in weekends and holidays. During the summerholidays
we make passages to Belgium, France and England.
In short, the nabouring countries to the Netherlands, and where the wind will
bring us. For more details see the journals.
Now and then we like to participate in race events in inshore waters, but
also out at sea on long offshore courses. We won some races as well, for details
see the race section.
