The inshore races at the Hollandsch Diep.

In 1995, our first season on the water, we sailed some races to train the crew of 6 very fine young people, in fact good friends of our two sons. We learned quickly how to handle the boat. Kookaloo may carry a lot of sail and yet is easy to control in light as well as more heavy winds.
During that season we won some races on inshore waters.

In the second year (1996) we extended the sails inventory with a huge blue and white spinnaker.
We won many races in ORC Club class. The handcap rules are fair and the best team will win.
However some club races results were calculated with different rules. That is to say, that the best team and boat will get an heavier penalty in handicap every time that boat wins a race. In such events we tried to race and perform according to Kookaloo's ORC standard.
All we could do is just push Kookaloo all to time to the limits of her abilities and it was frustrating at the end to find out, that the team didn't race fast enough.
We looked for more and stronger competition and since then we raced in events organised under the ORC rules only.
